Allan McConnochie was born in Sale, Cheshire, England on October 30, 1882. He was orphaned at an early age, and taken by foster parents to California. As a teenager, he ran away from his new home in San Diego CA, and made his way north to the Lac Ste. Anne area in Alberta Canada. There he, along with his companions, the Yates brothers, John and Billy, established the Hobo ranch. He then made a living ranching, providing guide services to hunters, and exploring the surrounding area.
